Binaural beats: a practical buyer’s guide

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion created when each ear receives a slightly different tone. They are widely used in meditation audio, but the marketing around them often goes beyond what the research can confidently establish.

What you hear

If one tone is presented to one ear and a slightly different tone to the other, the listener may perceive a rhythmic beat corresponding to the frequency difference. Stereo separation is therefore central to classic binaural-beat presentation.

Why alpha, theta and delta appear in marketing

These labels refer to frequency bands used to describe patterns in measured brain activity. They are associated with different states, but a commercial track labeled “theta” does not guarantee a particular psychological outcome.

Evidence quality matters

A useful question is not simply “do binaural beats work?” but “for which outcome, using which protocol, compared with what, in what population?” Small or mixed studies should not be converted into universal health promises.

Where Holosync fits

Holosync combines audio stimulation with a structured meditation routine and supporting program. That makes it more than a generic binaural-beat track, while still requiring the same care when interpreting broad outcome claims.
